We look at these sources of inspiration as "leaks." The image is apt. These aspects of the various Big Stories
and traditions that inspire many to risk engaging an Earthfolk ritual
practice are, themselves, "unintentional consequences" of the Lone
Male Warrior's Quest drive for dominion and domination. They were
not supposed to thrive and perdure, in point of fact, they were marked
for censure, excommunication, obliteration or expurgation. In short,
they were supposed to be locked up with the key thrown away but somehow
they "leaked" out.
Often these are
countering ideas and/or practices that the Warrior's
Quest tolerates because they are (mistakenly) assessed
as having
no power to subvert or thwart the drive
for dominion
and domination. For example, as Christianity formed under Constantine
there was no need to excise the Sermon on
the Mount from the gospels
because the faithful marched off to wars chanting, "The meek shall
inherit the Earth!" Likewise, allowing, even fostering, tantric
practices did not catalyze a revolt against—nor weaken in any conceivable
way —Lone Male values and imaginings.
If—for
whatever reasons—these ideas
or values
would ever show signs of erupting
into a movement, then
the Lone
Male effectively demonizes
and
brands
them as
heretical
or as "threats to national security" and quite savagely
blots out the movement. Jesus,
himself, was crucified. King and Gandhi murdered. John Lennon
assassinated. More profoundly: millions of women were
burned at the stake as consorts and comrades
of Satan—"Witches!"
We Earthfolk honor these
individuals and movements for their courage to inspire.
Today, for many seekers, these leaks remain high
among their personal sources
and points of inspiration that instill in them the courage
to risk moving
beyond
into the Earthfolk
imagining and ritual practice.
