Enlightened Humanism

In general, Non-Sacred Scientism has a humanistic yen. After all, Non-Sacreds are humans and they grasp that to do their research and experimentation that some level of civility must be maintained. A certain level of Enlightened Humanism finds a home among Non-Sacreds. If humans are to live together, a certain ethical code of behavior can be reasonably negotiated, even legislated.

Expanding human control through expanding knowledge, science and technological know-how represents the only guarantee for the development of a secure and enlightened world. The problem is not "man has become too arrogant" but that our culture lacks conviction in the possibility of making progress through encouraging experimentation, enterprise and risk-taking. In contrast to the current mood of exaggerating limits and denouncing any progressive proposal as "unsustainable," it is important to challenge the culture of restraint. An enlightened society is by definition open to new possibilities and the testing out of ideas. (Frank Fruedi)

The Non-Sacreds reject our Earthfolk claim that all knowing is human knowing, and that all knowing is making present the specifics of the peculiar relationship that defines a given sensory and sensual experience. For them, for example, machine knowing is not human knowing; it is a difference of kind, not just degree as it is for us Earthfolk.

For Non-Sacreds humans can control their emotions to the point where there is negligible impact on an experiment or fact. They would apply Occam’s Razor to our Earthfolk claim for human knowing and find that it is not the simplest explanation, and so not give it weight or priority. Consequently, they start with sensory data and input and deduce/induce to discern/discover the reality and character of the material basis for all existence.

Hypothetically, some Non-Sacreds tolerate and grant Sacred Scientism the possibility that someday scientists will discern a non-material aspect of existence, but agree that such a highly hypothetical possibility is a long way off.
