Presently, “America” is a global
empire.
Militarily, it has over 700 bases
on all continents, except Antarctica (result of a global
treaty not to militarize the South Pole). Corporately (for
profit and nonprofits), the Fortune 500 span the globe, and
it is the marketing rule not the exception to plan a worldwide
marketing
strategy for start-up companies. Academically,
higher education campuses encircle the world. Religiously,
most denominations and groups have historically planted worldwide
missions as they followed military might. “American” entertainment is
simply everywhere. In brief, Americans can sing, “We
are the world!”
With the rise of the Internet, so
the rise of the cyber-citizen
—a threat to “America.”
“America” has also disappeared because
it no longer has a visible Intimate Enemy.
There is no one to kill to save America
or defend democracy—all potential enemy-nations have
also disappeared. There is nothing truly French
or Argentinean or Iranian, etc.,—just Earthpeople.
It takes an act of fanciful and fantastic creative
imagining to profess that one, today, lives in “America.” In
fact, to claim so could cause one to be judged delusional,
as Columbus was when he landed and creatively imagined that he
was in India!
