The mind is boggled and wobbles when juggling all these seemingly apparent contradictions of vision and values. From an historical distance, it looks like mental instability—but was Tom conflicted? Or Sally? We will never know.

For Earthfolk, the biblical story of origin does, indeed, provide the key.

• Tom did not “see” Sally as Adam did not “see” Eve.

 

• He created her from his Rib—she being his material, enfleshed possession—as Adam did.

 

• Jefferson accepted the abusive relationship with Sally—dominating her—as Adam did with Eve.

The abusive parenting model that we Earthfolk found in Genesis is also found in this chapter on the origins of “America.”
