Other Big Stories: common
themes. At this point if you are unsettled by
this exposition, you might ask, “What
about all the positivity in Genesis chapter one’s “good” story?” There males and females
are equal. Allusions to a Mother goddess or goddesses are nested in
the “let us” phrase. True. Nevertheless, the Abrahamic
tradition, through rabbis and especially the influence of the
Roman Catholic theologian Augustine of Hippo (who influenced the Protestant
theologians John Calvin and Martin Luther), has emphasized the
Rib story over the “good” story.
        Although the imagery and
language of the Rib story are
modified and/or rejected by the growing
          Scientism and Secular traditions, the
           primal emotion of dreadful fear,
male dominion and dominance over nature and
          women, and the
subordination and/or rejection of the feminine,
          find
          full expression as these traditions
tap into the vision and creative imagination that the Rib grounds.

You might comment, "I agree with Earthfolk that
          the Abrahamic tradition dominates global
          consciousness (and its subconscious depths)—but
doesn't this simply justify its superiority? Maybe
we humans need fear to keep us from doing
even more horrible things! We haven't used the bomb
since 1945...." Yes, it is a matter of choice.
How you creatively imagine is how the world you
live in is made manifest and present.
