The only way we Earthfolk can grasp the vision and practice of slavery is through the insight that the slave-master relationship was an expression of the same Lone Male dominion/domination relationship expressed through Adam and Eve’s Rib story.

• Prisoners were sentenced to a place inside society with the expectation that they experience a conversion and so return as whole and productive citizens—they were rebirthed.

 

• Indians were expelled and exiled to a place outside society but inside American territory from which no one cared if they ever returned—they were consumed, “eaten alive.”

 

• Slaves lived within the intimacy of the master’s family, in most cases as a piece of legal property—they were flesh possessed.
