In this scientific pursuit, how humans
know is reduced from knowing through five senses to
relying primarily on one—knowing through seeing or
observing the results "in real time" either through
visual observation or machine detection. This subordination of
the five senses to one is also affirmed on the mental level. That
is, the "mind sees" connections, it
does not hear, smell, taste, or touch them. This reliance on
the "mental
sense" is accompanied by disconnecting from
the "heart," which is the source of emotional sensing. Why?The
answer is a version of "Which came first, the chicken or the
egg?"
Obviously, Science/Scientism is a
way of creatively imagining the world. We live in a "scientific
culture" and Scientism stories permeate everyone's consciousness,
even if they are unaware of them. TV ads are a simple
example, especially when promoting the latest medical science advance—the
miracle cure effected by a magical pill or through an elaborate,
high tech, "space age" surgical operation. The Scientism
message is, "Take the pill, rub in the cream, submit to cosmetic
surgery...and you will be saved, reborn, cured!"
But the question lingers, Why the disconnect between thinking and feeling?
